9 and 10 March 2007 - Dedication of the USS Monitor Center

USS Monitor Center is located in the Mariner's Museum in Newport News, Virginia.

On March 9, 1862, the Civil War battle of Hampton Roads between the ironclads USS Monitor and CSS Virginia (formerly the USS Merrimack) heralded the beginning of a new era in naval warfare. Though indecisive, the battle marked the change from wood and sail to iron and steam.

Company A, 79th NY particiapted in the dedication of the USS Monitor Center by bivouacing on the grounds of the museum, participating in the Dedication Ceremony and providing living history displays.
